Norway Launches Electric Aviation Test Arena with ALIA CX300’s First Flight
Norway has officially kicked off operations at its new Test Arena for Zero and Low Emission Aviation with the inaugural flight of the all-electric ALIA CX300 aircraft, developed by BETA Technologies. Conducted by Bristow Norway AS at Stavanger Airport, the flight marks a significant milestone in the country’s push to decarbonize regional aviation and establish itself as a proving ground for advanced air mobility (AAM) technologies.
AAM Takes Flight in the Nordic Skies
The ALIA CX300, a conventional takeoff and landing (eCTOL) aircraft, is designed for short-haul missions and cargo transport. Its debut in Norway follows a 6,976-kilometer journey across seven European countries, culminating in its delivery to the Test Arena. The aircraft will now undergo a six-month series of evaluation flights between Avinor-operated airports, starting with routes between Stavanger and Bergen.
These flights are part of a regulatory sandbox initiative led by Avinor and the Civil Aviation Authority of Norway (CAA Norway), aimed at gathering operational data, refining infrastructure requirements, and preparing the ecosystem for broader adoption of zero-emission aircraft.
