Background in Space Policy and Defense Innovation

Pimentel previously served as Policy and Strategy Lead and Program Manager for the Defense Innovation Unit’s Space Portfolio, where he worked on initiatives that bridged commercial space capabilities with national security needs. His earlier experience includes roles at NASA Headquarters’ Office of Technology Policy and Strategy and the U.S. House of Representatives, advising on armed services, foreign affairs, appropriations, and higher education.

He holds a master’s degree in International Policy from Stanford University, where his research included multi domain nuclear deterrence and the politics of space and semiconductors. He was an inaugural Defense Innovation Scholar at the Gordian Knot Center for National Security Innovation. Pimentel also holds a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Florida State University, where he serves as an Adjunct Professor of Space Business and Policy.

Based in Washington, D.C., he will represent Type One Ventures globally, with regular engagement across the firm’s offices in London, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Dubai, and Singapore.
