VORAGO’s VA41630 Microcontroller Earns Top Space-Grade Certification

VORAGO Technologies has secured a major validation for its radiation-hardened VA41630 microcontroller, which has now been added to the Defense Logistics Agency’s Qualified Manufacturers List (QML). This designation confirms the device’s readiness for deployment in aerospace, defense, and deep space missions, where reliability under extreme conditions is non-negotiable.

Built for the Harshest Environments

The VA41630 microcontroller is engineered to operate in high-radiation and extreme temperature environments, making it suitable for satellites, spacecraft, and defense systems. It has passed rigorous testing protocols and now carries the Radiation Hardness Assurance (RHA) designation, with the formal part number 5962-R24203.

Radiation-hardened electronics are essential for space applications, where cosmic rays and solar particle events can corrupt data or damage components. VORAGO’s use of its proprietary HARDSIL® technology allows commercial-grade silicon to be adapted for high-radiation environments, offering a cost-effective alternative to traditional rad-hard designs.

Certification Signals Flight-Readiness

The QML certification is the highest standard for space-grade electronics, administered by the DLA to ensure components meet stringent reliability and performance criteria. For aerospace program managers, this certification provides assurance that the VA41630 is flight-qualified and ready for mission-critical roles.

“This milestone gives aerospace and defense program managers the confidence that our technology will perform when it matters most,” said Garry Nash, COO of VORAGO Technologies.

Expanding the Radiation-Hardened Ecosystem

VORAGO’s achievement reflects a broader industry push to expand the availability of radiation-hardened components amid growing demand for small satellites, lunar infrastructure, and interplanetary missions. As commercial space ventures scale up, the need for robust, cost-efficient electronics is intensifying.

The VA41630 joins a competitive field of microcontrollers designed for space, including offerings from BAE Systems, Microchip, and Cobham. However, VORAGO’s approach, leveraging commercial silicon and proprietary hardening techniques, positions it as a nimble player in a market traditionally dominated by legacy suppliers.

Strategic Implications for Aerospace Stakeholders

For aerospace engineers and procurement teams, the addition of the VA41630 to the QPL expands the toolkit for designing resilient systems. Whether managing satellite attitude control, data acquisition, or autonomous operations, certified microcontrollers like this one are foundational to mission success.

As NASA, the Department of Defense, and commercial operators pursue more ambitious missions, the reliability of embedded systems will be under increasing scrutiny. VORAGO’s certification not only boosts its credibility but also signals the maturation of alternative rad-hard technologies that could reshape procurement strategies in the years ahead.
