FluoSolv 5408 Gains Boeing Approval as Safer Degreasing Alternative

NuGenTec’s FluoSolv® 5408 has received formal approval under Boeing specification BAC 5408 Revision T, marking a significant milestone for aerospace manufacturers seeking safer, high-performance vapor-degreasing solvents. FluoSolv 5408 is positioned as a direct replacement for legacy solvents such as Trichloroethylene (TCE), 1-Bromopropane (nPB), Methylene Chloride, and Perchloroethylene—all of which face increasing regulatory scrutiny due to toxicity and environmental impact. Notably, nPB has been classified as a confirmed animal carcinogen by ACGIH and flagged by OSHA and the EPA for its neurotoxic effects. FluoSolv 5408 offers a non-toxic, non-flammable, and recyclable alternative with a high KB value of 103, indicating strong degreasing capability.

This qualification was achieved through rigorous testing of FluoSolv 5408 for use on all non-ferrous metals, including titanium parts and assemblies. This qualification is now Revision (T), which is the latest revision to Boeing spec BAC-5408.
FluoSolv 5408 can be used in vapor degreasing to replace Trichloroethylene (TCE) as well as 1-Bromopropane or n-propyl bromide (nPB), which is commercially sold under the name Entron Aero for aerospace applications.
