StandardAero Outlines CEO Succession as Company Enters Next Phase of Aftermarket Growth

StandardAero has announced a planned leadership transition that will see longtime Chief Executive Officer Russell Ford retire after a 13 year tenure, with industry veteran Paul McElhinney appointed to succeed him effective October 1, 2026. For aerospace executives tracking stability and continuity within the global MRO sector, the move reflects a structured succession process at one of the industry’s largest independent engine services providers.

Leadership Transition Anchored in Long Term Performance

Ford’s tenure has been marked by significant expansion, with StandardAero growing annual revenue from $1.6 billion in 2013 to more than $6 billion in 2025. The company also completed its IPO in 2024 and has since delivered consistent operational and financial performance across commercial, business aviation and military markets. Ford will remain Executive Chairman through the end of 2026 to ensure a smooth transition.

Incoming CEO Brings Deep Aerospace Services Expertise

McElhinney, currently StandardAero’s Lead Independent Director, brings more than 35 years of aerospace and industrial leadership experience. His background includes leading GE Power Services and GE Aviation Services, where he oversaw major growth in global aftermarket backlog. His familiarity with StandardAero’s strategy and customer base positions him to guide the company through its next phase of expansion.

Continued Momentum in the Engine Aftermarket

StandardAero’s board emphasized that the company is entering this transition from a position of strength, supported by robust demand across its end markets and a diversified portfolio of engine MRO, component repair, on wing support and engineering services. For aerospace operators and OEM partners, the succession plan signals continuity in service delivery, investment and program support.

Strategic Implications for Aerospace Stakeholders

As one of the largest independent MRO providers, StandardAero plays a central role in sustaining global fleets across fixed wing and rotary wing platforms. The leadership transition comes at a time when operators are navigating record utilization, supply chain constraints and long term engine maintenance demand. McElhinney’s appointment suggests continued focus on scaling capacity, strengthening customer partnerships and expanding technical capabilities.
