Conrad Challenge Opens 2025–2026 Applications, Inviting Students to Tackle Aerospace and Global Challenges

Space Center Houston has officially opened applications for the 2025–2026 Conrad Challenge, a global STEM competition that invites high school students to develop real-world solutions across five innovation categories, including Aerospace & Aviation. Presented by Equinor, the challenge blends science, entrepreneurship, and design thinking into a months-long experience that culminates in the Innovation Summit at Space Center Houston.

A Launchpad for the Next Generation of Aerospace Innovators

Founded in 2007 by Nancy Conrad in honor of her late husband, Apollo 12 astronaut Charles “Pete” Conrad, the challenge has grown into one of the world’s most respected youth innovation platforms. Last year, more than 4,000 students from over 70 countries participated, showcasing prototypes and business plans that addressed pressing global issues.

For aerospace stakeholders, the Conrad Challenge offers a glimpse into the future talent pipeline. Students competing in the Aerospace & Aviation category are tasked with designing technologies that improve flight safety, reduce environmental impact, or enhance space exploration. Past entries have included autonomous drone systems, orbital debris mitigation concepts, and novel propulsion designs.

How It Works

Students aged 13 to 18 form teams of two to five members and select one of five categories: Aerospace & Aviation, Cyber-Technology & Security, Energy & Environment, Health & Nutrition, or The Water Challenge. Over the course of three phases, teams receive guidance from industry mentors, develop their innovations, and compete for recognition and prizes at the final summit in April 2026.

Applications opened August 28, with a kickoff event streamed live on Instagram featuring special announcements and insights from past participants.
